Individuationas a process of confining or localising collective consciousness to an individual, a process that precedes realisation of an individual in its entirety – a phase of separation from universal consciousness, according to Gillbert Simondon’s theory of the individuation process.

Clothing/dress is seen as a possible form of civilisational individuation, a thin boundary/envelope between nature and human historical-social constructions. Clothing is taken as a carrier of a civilisational identity in the sense of artificially produced protective skin that shields and covers natural skin, and gives the body its historical, social, and cultural determinants.

The method that I use in constructing painting/object and disassembling clothes/dresses is opposite to individuation in the formal sense of the word, but it is essentially reciprocal, because it is the bringing back of a shaped, tailored, garment item (which belongs to a particular person) to a collective state, a universal surface. With the process of a dress being disassembled and connected  with other disassembled clothes in the form of a painting – its function and value are recycled.

The idea of this method of such hybrid painting weaving is partly rooted in Arachne’s unconventional approach to weaving.

I stretch disassembled family female dresses on a frame, connect them all to a two-genealogical dimensional surface and further unify them by whitening them, which can be seen as a state pre-existing any colours, or as a initial stage of individual formation. By this reverse method, I evoke the form of the process before final individuation – covering the body with textile, dressing and fitting into the time frame and social / urban construction.
