Ecdysis is the process of shedding and regrowth of a new exoskeleton of arthropods. This process is necessary because the exoskeleton of arthropods is inflexible and rigid. Therefore, in order to grow, arthropods must constantly repeat it. During this process, the arthropods are very sensitive and vulnerable until the new outer skeleton is formed.

Ekdiza je proces odbacivanja i rast novog spoljnjeg skeleta zglavkara. Ovaj proces je neophodan jer je egzoskelet zglavkara neprilagodljiv i krut. Zato, da bi mogli rasti zglavkari ga moraju konstantno ponavljati. Za vrijeme ovog procesa zglavkari su jako osjetljivi i ranjivi dok se novi spoljnji skelet ne formira.
